Welcome to San Miguel County Fire Fighter Association the premier resource for volunteer professionals in San Miguel County, New Mexico.
Developed to provide a place for volunteer firefighters to come and share information, San Miguel County Fire Fighter Association was built to address the unique issues that all volunteer departments share.
Members of San Miguel County Firefighters Associations benefit from an active community of first responders who, like themselves, balance their professional life with the life of a firefighter.
OUR MISSION:
San Miguel County Firefighter Association strives to support all firefighters volunteer and professional within San Miguel County and their personal and family needs. It also serves as a blog for safety videos and pictures and training to assist in the ongoing services provided to San Miguel County. To insure and strive for highly trained and qualified volunteer firefighters in San Miguel County. This organization also functions as a Firefighter Union protecting and supporting volunteer firefighter rights and concerns. It serves as coordination group to unite firefighters over a diverse and long distance county. It will help facilitate cooperated emergency response in San Miguel County. San Miguel County Fire Information:
The San Miguel County Volunteer Fire District’s provides all Risk Services to the unincorporated areas of San Miguel County. The Volunteers are dedicated to providing the highest level of FIRE/EMS Response Service possible to the resident’s that includes a wide variety of services to an ever expanding and diverse population. These services include fire suppression, hazardous materials mitigation, Emergency Medical Services, rural search and rescue and fire prevention. We continually strive for ways to better improve our services and meet the specialized needs of our residents with the following volunteers, equipment and stations:
There are currently 12 active Fire District’s with one in the preplanning stage. There are 10 active stations with 2 more in the pre-building stage. There are 4 active sub-stations with 10more in the various planning stages.
There are approximately 300 volunteers working in various positions of the departments.
There are 60 fire fighting units and 6 rescue units located within the 12 departments.
Our primary response is to wild land fires that comprise approximately 90% of our fire calls. Our EMS units respond to automobile accidents along Interstate 25 within the county and emergency 911 Calls in rural areas of the county.
The population of the county is approximately 28,000 and growing.
The fire departments serve an area of approximately 180,000 square miles.
